Instructions on how to apply for a research permit from the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.

See here for instructions and process if you plan to recruit JYU staff as subjects for your study.

A research permit is required from persons not affiliated with the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ when:

  • The working time of Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ staff is used, for example, to conduct research interviews or surveys during working hours, to collect other research material, or to make an intervention in a teaching situation.
  • The research affects the performance of the work of the university staff or the teaching of students, e.g. when an intervention is made in a teaching situation.
  • The subject of the research is university equipment, enclosed spaces, or events to which the public is not admitted.
  • There is another specific reason for authorising the research (e.g. a requirement from the funder).

As a general rule, a research permit is not required when:

  • As a general rule, an authorisation is not required when a questionnaire or information sheet on the study is requested to be sent to staff and/or students in general via the university's information systems (including the e-mail lists). The administrator of the information system decides whether the communication of the research in question is justified.
  • The research is carried out by a member of JYU staff or a student. If the university staff or students wish to study members of the university community, they may themselves make an informal agreement with the relevant party.

NOTE! If the administrator of the information system or the recipient of an internal JYU research request considers that a more in-depth assessment is required, he or she may require an application for a research permit.

A research permit is not required when:

  • You ask the university to provide some of the material held by the university for research purposes. In this case, a data transfer request must be made (see below).
  • University students are observed, interviewed or asked to complete questionnaires other than in teaching or similar situations.
  • Staff participates in the research in their free time.
