LaVirE-study

The LaVirE-study investigates post-treatment lifestyle habits and treatment responses to pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence surgeries. In Autumn 2023, LaVirE performed a questionnaire survey to all women who were surgically treated 1–5 years before onset of data collection at the Hospital Nova for aforementioned reasons.

Project description

Aim of LaVirE research is to study if women, who have had either surgical operation to treat urinary incontinence or hysterectomy to treat pelvic organ prolapse, were completely or partially relieved from their symptoms one-to-five years after surgery and how their current lifestyle habits associate with treatment outcome. Another aim is to study if they have developed new pelvic floor-related problems post-surgery or if their pre-surgery symptoms have reappeared and how their current symptomology affects their ability to perform physical activities or influences their dietary choices and mood. Finally, associations of the post-surgery factors of physical activity, eating behaviour and mental well-being with current pelvic floor symptomology and the potential harmfulness of the symptoms will be studied.
