I am a senior researcher at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER), Ģֱ and a Docent of Learning Environments Research at the Philosophical Faculty, University of Eastern Finland (UEF).
I supervise doctoral students in the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Education and Psychology, JYU, and serve as a mentor in the mentoring pool of The Finnish Multidisciplinary Doctoral Training Network on Educational Sciences (FinEd).
I am an educational researcher with a deep interest in understanding the theoretical and empirical foundations of teaching and learning, including the perspective of educational design. For a long, my research has spanned two interconnected lines: the study of collaborative learning practices (skills and processes) in (technology-rich) learning situations across different timescales, and the exploration of (hybrid) collaborative learning environments where these practices unfold, largely in basic and higher education. I have spent years examining learning as a social phenomenon in diverse social formations, including student communities, teams, small groups, and dyads, across remote and co-located settings. My research is largely interdisciplinary. Looking ahead, one line of my current and future aspirations in research focuses on advancing sustainability in HE through hybrid, collaborative learning spaces and value-driven pedagogies.
