Jelena Salmi
Biography
I am an anthropologist and postdoctoral researcher based at the Department of History and Ethnology. My current research interests are related to just sustainability transition in the Finnish forest sector. In my research, I apply ethnographic methods including participant observation and loosely structured interviews.
Research interests
I work as a postdoctoral researcher in the multidisciplinary ForTran project focused on co-creating socially effective solutions to sustainability challenges of the Finnish forest sector.
In my previous work, I have studied the nexus of climate change, migration and resource-dependent livelihoods in India in the ENDISSA project (2018-2022) funded by the Research Council of Finland.
In my PhD thesis (2019), I studied the entanglement of Hindu nationalism and neoliberal urban policies and the consequences of this for slum dwellers and the Muslim minority in Ahmedabad, India.
