Books and e-books

The library's collections consist of printed and electronic books and journals, various types of databases and special collections.

You can find printed and electronic books, journals and magazines acquired for the library’s collections in JYKDOK.

E-books acquired by the library are available from workstations on the university’s network or remotely with your JYU username and password.

Research Literature

Research literature includes literature acquired in support of study and research. The collection focuses on the university’s research and teaching priorities, as well as publications in which JYU researchers publish.

Course Books

The textbook collection contains literature that is part of the degree requirements of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.

Dictionaries

The library's collections include both printed and electronic dictionaries.

Printed dictionaries can be found either in the Research Literature collection (lower ground floor) of Lähde Building, shelf location Sanak, or in the Sanakirjat collection in the Aalto Reading Room. For information and location of dictionaries, please consult the JYKDOK -database.

  • Lähde Building, Research Literature Collection, Sanak shelf: general and specialised translation dictionaries
  • Aalto Reading Room, Sanakirjat Collection: general and specialised monolingual dictionaries in various languages, e.g. etymological dictionaries, spelling and slang dictionaries.

You can also use the extensive electronic dictionaries MOT Language Service and Redfox Master.

  • includes over 40 dictionaries, a translator and a language checker. The MOT Translator has 40 languages that can be cross-translated by language pair. MOT Language checker proofreads your text and suggests corrections to problems found. Supported languages are English, Swedish, German, French and Finnish.
  • is the largest dictionary in Finland with over 23.9 million search terms, 41 languages and a translation memory of 23 million sentence pairs. In addition to dictionaries, Redfox offers a text translation service, language checkers, a language teaching service and grammar resources.

Legal Deposit Collection (Fennica)

Legal deposit copies are received under the Finnish Legal Deposit Act and added to the library’s archive collection. Due to the restrictions on the use of the material, the books are located in the closed premises of the Collection Centre, but you can order them for reading room use if they are not found in other collections in the library.

Electronic legal deposit copies and can be used remotely in the library’s Digi archive or with your JYU username and password.
