Ģֱ launches a graduate engineering study field in Information Technology

Accordingly, the Ģֱ launches a graduate engineer study programme in Information Technology. This study programme is placed in the Faculty of Information Technology and is planned to start in 2021. It provides degree studies from bachelor- up to doctoral level. The students can combine their IT studies e.g. with components from sport sciences, language studies, music, economics, education or psychology. The planned intake for the first year is 50 students.
”We wish to build expertise that is meaningful in view of future working life. The new graduate engineer study field of the Ģֱ responds to the national need for experts in such areas of digitalisation that call for information technology, knowledge of mathematics, and human sciences”, says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen.
”In our increasingly digital society, there is a need for software experts who understand the operation logic of different fields and can find IT solutions suitable to these contexts. While digital solutions are becoming more complex, we need expertise that integrates IT-related and mathematical competence as well as capacity to apply this expertise to the needs of different fields. Such fields include, for instance, sports and well-being, psychology, social sciences, artistic fields, education, and security”, states Pasi Tyrväinen, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology.
”The University has aimed for long at extending its educational responsibility to the field of technology. A key to succeeding in this was the large support received both regionally from the whole Central Finland, the Chamber of Commerce, entrepreneurs and companies, and nationally. The MPs of the region deserve big thanks, they have joined forces to support this proposal, which is important for reforming the economic structure and fostering the competitiveness of the region within digital society”, says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen.
The Faculty of Information Technology of the Ģֱ is Finland’s second largest education provider in the IT field. The faculty yields annually more than 350 degrees.
