The next Conferment of Degrees Ceremony of Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ will be held on 22–24 May 2026. It has been a tradition at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ that a Committee from Student Union of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ asks the Rector's permission to arrange the Conferment Ceremony, after which the preparations start.

Chair of the Student Union Board Venla Suosalo and Executive Director of Student Union Teemu Vasama asked Rector's permission to arrange the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony on 3 February 2025. Rector Jari Ojala gave permission to arrange the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony. Preparations for the twelfth Conferment of Degrees Ceremony have begun.

The Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is the University community’s most solemn celebration. In the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony, the new Masters and Doctors will be given their degree in the ceremonial Act of Conferment, and will receive a Master’s laurel and ring or a Doctor’s hat and sword as the sign of it. Distinguished persons will also be appointed as honorary doctors in the ceremony.

Registration for the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony opens in autumn 2025. Anyone who has completed a master’s or doctor’s degree at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ may participate. The University sends invitation to the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony to all masters and doctors who have completed their degree after the previous ceremony. Those who have graduated before can also participate in the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony.

The conferment tradition in Finland, which is part of the almost eight hundred years old European tradition, emphasises the high intrinsic value of education in our society. The conferment of the master’s degrees is included in the National Inventory of Living Heritage maintained by the Finnish Heritage Agency. The ceremony is internationally unique: with the exception of four Finnish universities, master’s degrees are not conferred anywhere else in the world.
