The President of Finland Alexander Stubb will hold the first Martti J. Kari memorial lecture at the Ģֱ.

The lecture series honours Martti J. Kari’s (17.11.1960–30.8.2023) career in the Finnish Defence Forces, especially in military intelligence, and academic career at the Ģֱ, where he served as a professor of practice in security and strategic analysis. Kari was a central force in the development of teaching and research in his field.

“The lecture series respects the life’s work of our renowned professor of practice,” says Rector of the Ģֱ Jari Ojala. “At the same time, we continue his legacy of sharing knowledge of security and geopolitics in our society. We truly appreciate President Alexander Stubb’s decision to come here to open the lecture series.”

The event is hosted by Kari’s close colleague PhD Hilkka Grahn and will include contributions from Rector Jari Ojala, Professor Antero Holmila and Lecturer Panu Moilanen as well as Martti’s favourite music performed by JYU’s Musica choir. The event is open for public and can be watched live on the JYU website. Maanpuolustuksen kannatussäätiö (National Defence Support Foundation) supports the event.

The event is in Finnish.

Event for the public: The President of Finland will meet citizens in an event organised by the City of Jyväskylä in the Jyväskylä University Library Lähde at 1:30–2:15 p.m.
