Sport and health sciences were in the comparison for the fourth time and rose to position 50. Psychology also rose to 201–250. Research in physics, humanities and mathematics were all positioned 401–450.

“It is a magnificent result that our disciplines rise in the distinguished QS Ranking,” says Vice Rector Marja-Leena Laakso. “All universities aim to improve their quality and impact, so we can proudly notice that we are doing right and influential things and that our research is internationally visible and valued.”

QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates universities in 48 distinct disciplines. The ranking is based on the following indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per paper as well as the productivity and impact of the published work of scientists or scholars. This year the ranking included 48 disciplines and 1,368 universities from all over the world.

“QS differs from other rankings in that the international visibility and reputation of the university has a significant importance through academic peer evaluations and employer evaluations,” says Laakso.
