Production systems cybersecurity project receives significant funding

In Finland, production systems are controlled with techniques that are not always designed to be cyber-secure. The aim of the Cybersecurity governance of operational technology (CSG) project is to research and develop a cybersecurity system integration reference model. This model can be used, for example, to improve the cybersecurity of new power plants and their connection to the electricity grid.
"Energy production is growing and getting more disperse, which increases the importance of cybersecurity especially in system integration. If there are safety deficiencies in the energy production system connected to the distribution network, they can be reflected in the entire national energy production and distribution system," says Tapio Frantti, the Professor of Practice in charge of the project.
The project enables cyber-secure energy production and improves security of supply by securing the operational functioning and integration of production and information systems.
"The aim is to improve the cybersecurity of production systems by securing system integration and operational functioning", Frantti explains.
ABB, Ahlstrom-Munksjö, Cinia, Nixu, Rejlers, Rugged Tooling, Savon Voima, Turku University of Applied Sciences and the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ are involved in the project. The project is coordinated by the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.
