Let’s get children and adolescents moving! Help JYU meet the challenge of reducing sedentary behaviour
The Ģֱ invites everyone in Finland to donate to research that implements solutions for increasing the physical activity of children and adolescents in their everyday environments: at home, school, and during their hobbies.

“It is commonly known that high levels of sedentary behaviour, too much screen time, as well as physical inactivity negatively affect wellbeing and learning,” says the Dean of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences Sarianna Sipilä. “The donations allow us to seek solutions for increasing the physical activity of children and adolescents while reducing sedentary behaviour through multidisciplinary methods with equality in mind. We support the learning and wellbeing of children and adolescents by encouraging active breaks during long periods of sedentary behaviour and screen time, thus offering them fun moments of physical activity.”
“Fundraising is a necessary instrument for ensuring our financial sustainability,” says Rector Jari Ojala. “Donations to all disciplines are more than welcome. Our new campaign focuses on research into children’s physical activity – an area which has significant implications for humanity as a whole species. As he only university-level unit for sport and physical exercise education in Finland, the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences recognizes its responsibility in securing people’s ability to function and work in the future. Donating to research into children’s physical activity is a critical investment in the future, because it gives the people of Finland a chance for a healthier life.”
A donation to the University is the best investment in the future. Even small donations can have a big impact! You receive a tax deduction for corporate and personal taxation when your donations to the University are 850 euros or higher during the year.
