The REIMAGINED Project: Social-Emotional Learning in Action!
The REIMAGINED members have collaborated to integrate social-emotional education (SEE) with arts education, fostering a new educational paradigm for lower secondary schools. As the world faces increasingly complex challenges—from social inequalities to the climate crisis—the traditional focus on verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligence is no longer sufficient to prepare students for modern society. The goal of REIMAGINED has been to encourage creative thinking, resilience, and social-emotional development, shifting education from simply "learning to know" to "learning to be, do, and live together."
A Day of Inspirational Presentations and Artistic Expression
The final event commenced with an EU Policy Roundtable, where Kristof Fenyvesi presented the project’s research findings, followed by discussions on how arts-integrated practices can support social-emotional education across Europe. Following the policy discussions, students and educators from Greece, Hungary, and Italy presented the artistic school projects they had been working on throughout the project. The presentations showcased the tangible impact of combining arts with educational practices, highlighting how creativity and emotional intelligence can be nurtured in classroom settings. The event ended with a theatrical performance by Greek students, symbolizing the fusion of arts and education that has been the cornerstone of REIMAGINED.
Why Arts-Integrated Education?
At its core, REIMAGINED addresses a crucial question: how can we adapt education to meet the evolving needs of students in the 21st century? By integrating arts into the curriculum of any subjects, we enable students to express themselves, develop emotional resilience, and think more creatively. Arts education goes beyond aesthetic appreciation; it becomes a powerful tool for personal growth, empathy, and collaboration—skills essential for success in today’s interconnected world.
A Collaborative Effort Across Borders
The project has spanned multiple countries, coordinated by Greek Action Aid and partners like the Greek Institute of Educational Policy, Italy (OXFAM ITALIA ONLUS), Hungary (ROGERS Foundation), and the Finnish Institute for Educational Research from the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. We worked closely together to implement new pedagogical methodologies and artistic school projects. Over the course of the project, we developed intervention frameworks and evidence-based policy recommendations to mainstream social-emotional learning in lower secondary schools through arts-integrated practices.
The Path Forward
As the REIMAGINED project draws to a close, its impact will continue. The transition from "learning to know" to "learning to be, do, and live together" is not just a theoretical concept but a practical necessity in today’s world. Through this project, we have laid the groundwork for a more holistic, inclusive, and creative approach to education—one that fosters emotional intelligence and resilience in students, helping them navigate the challenges of modern society.
