Happy 20th Anniversary to NSC!
During the past 20 years, interdisciplinary nanoscience has matured into a viable and dynamic field of science, firmly establishing its presence as a key profiling area at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. Significant part of University’s high-profile publications are published by the NSC researchers. NSC researchers also succeed in acquiring the most competitive external funding.
- The international master’s degree program in nanoscience has trained masters’ of science since the beginning. Originally the students arrived to the program through the departments of biology and environmental science, chemistry or physics but to honor the anniversary, for the first time this spring, the program in nanoscience is available as an independent field of study with its own entry requirements, says the scientific Director of the Nanoscience Center Lotta-Riina Sundberg.
Three new focus areas of the research
To honor the anniversary, the NSC has reestablished the focus areas of the research to provide a more concrete link between the science and relevant societal challenges.
- These focus areas are health and well-being, sustainable society, and second quantum revolution, and they reflect the basic interdisciplinary research done in Jyväskylä which is the key when solving societal challenges, says Sundberg.
Anniversary events for you
To celebrate the 20-year anniversary, the Nanoscience Center organizes three public events with the goal of highlighting current societally important themes through the above-mentioned focus areas. The first event linked to the focus area of sustainable society is organized as a part of the Science for all public events at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ and it is held on Tuesday 30th of January 2024 with the theme of hydrogen economy. The experts of the evening are Professor Karoliina Honkala (NSC), M.Sc. (Tech.) Mikko Lappalainen (VTT) ja Project Manager Timo Harju, Business Jyväskylä. They discuss the production of green hydrogen and the role hydrogen economy plays in Central Finland.
