Get ready to apply to doctoral programmes at JYU

The application period of autumn 2024 opens on 1 September 2024 and the deadline for applications is 30 September 2024. The doctoral study right of accepted applicants starts in January 2025. The next application period will take place in April 2025.

Whether you apply this autumn or next spring, it's a good idea to start preparing well in advance. Applicants are advised to familiarize themselves with the eligibility requirements, admission criteria and application guidelines before the beginning of the application period.

In addition to the application form, you will need to submit attachments, for example, a research plan and a doctoral study plan. Moreover, you must contact the specialisation representative or potential supervisor at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ to arrange supervision for a doctoral dissertation. In summary, the main steps in applying for doctoral studies are:

  1. Get to know the doctoral programmes
  2. Check your eligibility
  3. Think about a possible research topic and familiarize yourself with funding options
  4. Find out the availability of relevant supervision
  5. Find out about the assessment procedure
  6. Submit your application.

18 different doctoral programmes

Around 200 new students are accepted into the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ doctoral programmes every year. The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ offers 18 doctoral programmes. Depending on the doctoral programme and specialisation option it is possible to pursue a doctoral degree in philosophy, education, economics and business administration, sport sciences, psychology, technology, health sciences and social sciences. The target completion time for a doctoral degree is four years if you work on your degree full-time.
