Completed degrees in 2023: Congratulations to more than 3,000 new degree holders!

In total 3,055 degrees were completed at the Ģֱ in 2023: 1,593 master’s degrees, 1,310 bachelor’s degrees, 151 doctorates and one licentiate.

The number of completed degrees in all categories rose from the previous year’s 1,447 master’s degrees, 1,201 bachelor’s degrees and 116 doctorates.

“The rising number of completed degrees is gratifying both for our graduates and our staff who are doing a great job,” says Vice Rector Marja-Leena Laakso. “Warm congratulations to the whole JYU community! However, there is still room for improvement so that we can reach the objectives set for the number of master’s and bachelor’s degrees. In our strategy work, we are considering new means to support the learning capability and engagement in the learning community better than before as well as to enable meaningful educational paths and high-quality teaching and guidance at our multidisciplinary University.”

The greatest number of doctoral degrees, 39, was completed in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (39), while the Faculty of Mathematics and Science had 37 doctorates. In the Faculty of Education and Psychology the number was 31, in the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences 24, in the Faculty of Information Technology 15, and in Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics 5. 

The number of master’s degrees was biggest in the Faculty of Education and Psychology (409). The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences produced 392 master’s degrees, the Faculty of Information Technology 230, and the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences 223. The number of master’s graduates in Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics was 207 and in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science 132.

The annual degree objectives set in the agreement between the Ģֱ and the Ministry of Education and Culture for the years 2021–2024 are, on average, 1,731 master’s and 150 doctoral degrees. The average annual objective for the number of bachelor’s degrees is 1,460.
