– According to statistics, immigrants and migrants face a high risk for low level of income. Studies show that entering the Finnish labour market can be difficult, but quite little is still known about the effects of different background factors and human experiences. It is also important to talk about livelihood issues, since immigrants and migrants are a permanent part of Finnish working life, says University Lecturer and the lead project researcher Hanna-Mari Ikonen.

Moving to a new country, learning a new language and culture, permit practices, low-income fields and entrepreneurship, housing arrangements, family relations across several countries, and livelihood arrangements in a new country can influence migrants’ uncertain employment situation.

We are calling for immigrants and migrant living in Finland to tell us about their life as a low-earning employee, entrepreneur or as person who works multiple jobs at the same time. In the interview we are interested in everyday experiences and life in general. In addition to Finnish, the interviews can be conducted also in English or, as far as possible, in the interviewee’s native language with an interpreter’s assistance.
