An international football conference in ´³²â±¹Ã¤²õ°ì²â±ôä: Sustainability and evidence-based practices in football

At the Nordic Football Conference, the intention is to scratch more than merely the surface. The event offers interesting speeches and various perspectives on football research, and creates opportunities for people working in football, studying the sport, and those interested in the research of the game to share the latest research and best practices. Registration for the conference have opened on the official website.
– The conference provides an excellent opportunity for networking. It connects researchers, football coaches and other professionals of the sport, as well as students, media and stakeholders, says Professor of Practice and the chairperson of the Nordic Football Conference Mihaly Szerovay.
The Nordic Football Conference is formulated around three areas, which have been built around the two overarching themes of sustainability and evidence-based practices:
-
Coaching and player development
-
Contemporary issues in football culture
-
The global football system
Keynote speakers at the conference will address these themes. The Portuguese national futsal team physiologist, assistant professor at the University of Beira Interior, Bruno Travassos will emphasize how coaches in football and futsal should develop the training exercises to ensure transfer of behaviours between practice and competition.
Assistant professor Bente Skongvang (Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences) will take the floor to talk about women football’s development in the Nordic countries, starting from the 1980’s until the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 hosted in England this summer. Skongvang is also going to talk about her trailblazing career as a referee which culminated at the final of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic football tournament.
The history of football is part of the history of modernisation, both in domestic and international terms. In his presentation, senior university lecturer Arto Nevala from the University of Eastern Finland will investigate how football’s development as a game and a social phenomenon has been related to the macro-level political, economic, and social developments of the society from the latter half of the 1800’s all the way until the 2020’s.
Jonathan Wilson, the author of eleven books about football, including Inverting the Pyramid: The History of Football Tactics, will be attending the conference as a special guest.
Conference partners: City of ´³²â±¹Ã¤²õ°ì²â±ôä, Firstbeat Technologies, Semma, Regional Council of Central Finland, VK-kustannus.
