Academy Professor Hannu Häkkinen achieves the “highly cited researcher” status in 2018
Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) has chosen Academy Professor Hannu Häkkinen from the Ģֱ (JYU) as one the researchers in its annual world list of ”Highly Cited Researchers”. The list includes researchers whose peer-reviewed publications are among 1% top-cited in the world in their respective field. The citations are analyzed from the data published in Web of Science during the past 10 years.
- This was a great and nice surprise. It feels very good that after so many years of hard work one gets this recognition from the scientific community. Essentially it is the appreciation to my work from my colleagues. In the last 10 years I have had 15 of those “highly cited” research articles. The total citation count to my articles is over 17 000, says Häkkinen.
- I am extremely glad and proud that a scientist from the Ģֱ has now made this highly appreciated list. My guess is that other researchers from our University will make this list in the coming years, says the Vice Rector Henrik Kunttu.
An appreciated cross-disciplinary scientist
Academy Professor Häkkinen works at the Departments of Physics and Chemistry and at the Nanoscience Center in JYU and has had world-wide collaborations to several foreign groups in USA, Mexico, Canada, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, India, China and Japan. His group investigates physical, chemical and biological properties of nanostructured metal-molecule interfaces by using theoretical and computational methods. Recent research has focused on metal nanoparticles that are protected by organic molecules that can be used, e.g., as catalysts, sensors and bio-compatible labels.
Häkkinen’s research group is very well known internationally. His collaborators include Chemistry Noble Laureate Roger D Kornberg from Stanford University and the Director of the Fritz-Haber Institute Hans-Joachim Freund from Berlin. He is a visiting professor in Xiamen University, China, for 2017 – 2021.
Häkkinen is the recipient of 2011 science prize in JYU and 2018 Theodor Homén physics prize from the Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters. He has been the Scientific Director of JYU’s Nanoscience Center 2012 – 2017 and the member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters since 2015. He was chosen as the Academy Professor for 2016 – 2020 by the Academy of Finland.
