We would like to warmly welcome you to the seminar targeted to all stakeholders involved in the design and research of physical learning environments including researchers, educational providers, designers, etc. The focus will be on learning environments that foster both quality teaching-learning processes and wellbeing. The aim is to share our research findings and to strengthen the multidisciplinary and multiprofessional networks amongst experts in learning environment design and research.

The seminar is part of the “Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Learning Environment Design (MultiLED)” project  funded by the Team Finland Knowledge program at the Finnish National Agency for Education. The MultiLED project is led by Dr. Pirjo Sanaksenaho, Dean of the Department of Architecture at Aalto University in collaboration with Dr. Tiina Mäkelä, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research at the Ģֱ, and Dr. Paula Cardellino, senior lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, Universidad ORT Uruguay. Read more about the project here: MultiLED project

Furthermore, the seminar will serve as a kick off and an opening seminar for a Nordplus Horizontal 2024 project Impact of Learning Environment Design on Teaching, Learning, and Wellbeing: A Nordic Perspective ("LED Nordic"). The project partners represent universities, private consultants and municipalities in all Nordic countries. The project aims to facilitate a multi-professional Nordic collaboration on the development of new knowledge and innovative methods that are relevant for researchers, education providers (municipalities and educational institutions) and for pedagogical, industrial and architectural designers and consultants.

LED Nordic project also entails a pilot study on the impact of learning environments on academic and affective learning outcomes, student engagement, participation, inclusion and wellbeing. The pilot study will be conducted in collaboration with an international cross-sectoral Innovative Learning Environments and Student Experience (ILESE) study led by the Australian Learning Environments Applied Research Network

During the seminar, we have the pleasure to launch a new book (currently only in Finnish): Mäkelä, Kankaanranta, Yada & Hyöky (2024): Opettajien näkemyksiä opetus- oppimisprosesseja ja hyvinvointia edistävistä oppimisympäristöistä eri koulutusasteilla (“Teachers’ perceptions of learning environments fostering learning and wellbeing in different educational levels”). Julkaistu Kunnallisalan kehittämissäätiön Tutkimusjulkaisut-sarjassa (Published in Research Series by The Foundation for Municipal Development).

During the seminar we will be able to learn about the ILESE study directly from its co-directors A/ProfWesley Imms from the University of Melbourne in collaboration with Dr. Julia Morris from the Edith Cowan University, Australia.
