Marcus Petz’ Social and Public Policy doctoral study results show that flows of knowledge, money, and other resource capitals are currencies. These resource flows can be controlled and made clear with current-sees.

Forward-resilience prepares us for the future

By using different current-sees, as with ledger systems used by the Neocracy, the BookMooch book-sharing service, and Pisteet kotiin, we can build strong resilient local communities as part of a network making up a Resilient State, a worthy successor to the Nordic Welfare State.

The Resilient State is part of the endeavor to make the great transition forced upon us by the threats of climate change. Viable rural communities are needed, so we can be worthy ancestors of the Indigenous peoples to come.

Most important function of CCs is building community

Communities where different community currencies control multiple capital flows, to change lives, were investigated. Case studies revealed the Tampere housing provider Vuokratalosäätiö uses an electronic points system called Pisteet kotiin - home points awarded for paying rent on time, having house insurance, taking part in the residents' association, ecoteam actions, or participating in democracy groups. The points can be spent on home repairs, cleaners or door locks or blinds to build a good life.

The Neocracy, a decentralized collective organization, has a tokenomics (Karma tokens, Neco cryptocurrency, and the Collexa referendum) that is building a new society that is money free and based on happiness economics.

Sysmä municipality shows that even a small village can run its own alternative e-money scheme. These results highlight that the purpose of local currencies is to promote a more ecologically and economically sustainable world by strengthening communities of place and communities of interest, as communities of use.

Cryptocurrencies for good

SEEDs cryptocurrency and the Vivero regenerative finance app are used by Earth Regenerators to build bioregionally based communities in harmony with people and planet across the world.

Cryptocurrencies can act as a social technology and be used for prosocial behavior. Their use to manage flows of capital and resources to build capacity for a better community is a major finding of the integral research used by Petz in his work on community currencies. Through such community economics action research, we all have a way to take action for the future.

Research partly funded by Ellen ja Artturi Nyyssösen säätiö. With support from Sysmä municipality, Sydänlanka ry, VTS Foundation, and the Neocracy DCO.
