Postgraduate degrees
Higher education degree graduates can apply for doctoral study rights.
According to the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ Degree Regulations 18 §, a student selected to doctoral education is granted a study right for a doctoral programme. The study right for a doctoral degree includes the right to a licentiate degree. For a special reason, a study right can be awarded only for pursuing a licentiate degree.
The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ Graduate School for Doctoral Studies operates at three levels:
- the Graduate School operates at the University level and steers the implementation of doctoral training in the faculties.
- doctoral schools operate at the faculty level. Faculties admit doctoral students, organise training and award degrees.
- at the practice level, doctoral training is implemented in doctoral programmes.
Each doctoral student therefore belongs to both the university's graduate school, the doctoral school of their own faculty, and their own doctoral programme.
The study right for a degree expires upon graduation.
Applying to doctoral studies
The call for applications for doctoral programmes is opened twice a year. You can apply for doctoral training if you have completed a relevant master’s degree awarded by a university, a relevant master’s degree awarded by a university of applied sciences or a relevant study programme abroad which in the awarding country gives eligibility for doctoral training. You can find more information in the application instructions of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.
Voluntary renouncement of the right to study
According to the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ Degree Regulations 22 §, a student may permanently renounce the granted right to study by notifying the University in writing. The notification is submitted to the University’s Registry Office. The right to study is marked as expired, at the earliest, on the date the notification was received. After this, the right cannot be restored.
