The applications for the recognition of  prior communication and language studies are done electronically in Sisu, and the recognition is marked into the study data systems with the original course name, institution, ECTS and grade. The recognized courses and credits will be marked with a separate code into the transcript.

Studies completed abroad during JYU student exchange can be included into your degree as mandatory/optional courses. Please attach an officially certified copy of the transcript of studies from the host university and a copy of the course description, showing language and content of the course, number of credits and grading scale.

The recognition of the communication and language courses depends on the content of the courses, learning outcomes and goals, number of ECTS-credits and the demand level of the course, which are then compared to the JYU course to be recognized through prior learning.

NB! The Board of Movi has decided that as of 1 August 2020 that communication and language courses older than 10 years cannot be recognized into the degree.

Principles for Recognition of communication and language studies

At the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ studies completed in a Finnish or foreign university or some other higher education institution or equivalent skills acquired by other means can be recognized and replace studies of corresponding level as specified in the curriculum. The competences must always be verified and assessed. Recognition can be done at any point during the studies for enrolled degree students.

If student wishes to study language and communication courses required in a degree somewhere else, the equivalence should be checked beforehand at Movi.

Substitution refers to substituting studies included in the curriculum fully or partly with studies completed elsewhere or with competence demonstrated otherwise than in formal education. Substitution requires similarity of content and that the studies or other competences are at the same EFQ level as the substituted studies.

Inclusion refers to adding studies completed elsewhere or competence proven otherwise than in formal education as part of a degree to, for example, elective studies. The level of the studies or other competence must correspond to the curriculum and the learning outcomes of the degree. The similarity of content with a certain part of the curriculum is not required.

The student is responsible for starting the recognition process and the prerequisite is the equivalence with learning outcomes of the degree or parts of it. The competence to be recognized cannot overlap with courses done and/or competences already recognized in the degree. The student must verify the competence in a way that can be assessed. Recognition may require additional proofs and/or assignments.

The recognition of the communication and language courses depends on the content of the courses, learning outcomes and goals, number of ECTS credits and the demand level of the course, which are then compared to the JYU course to be recognized through prior learning as follows:
