Student exchange and internships for students liable to pay tuition fees

Instructions and matters to consider regarding student exchange and internships abroad for students liable to pay tuition fees at JYU.

Table of contents

When a degree student of JYU who is liable to pay tuition fees completes a student exchange period as part of her/his studies, the student needs to register for attendance at JYU for the duration of the exchange, and therefore is required to pay the tuition fee, or receive the scholarship which covers the tuition fee, also during the time spent in the exchange destination. The same applies to internships which are completed as part of studies.

If you have received the scholarship, which covers the tuition fee, and are planning to go on student exchange or do an internship during your first year of studies, please note that you need to have the required 55 ECTS credits registered at JYU during that same academic year (by 31 July) in order to receive the scholarship also for your second academic year.

If you are liable to pay tuition fees (this includes also scholarship-recipients) and you go on student exchange or do an internship during the last semester of your studies, please make sure that the credits completed during the exchange or internship can be transferred to your JYU degree in good time before the date when you plan to graduate. Please see also the following section:

Graduation of students liable to pay tuition fees

The transfer of credits completed during student exchange cannot be done before you have obtained an official transcript of records of the studies completed during the exchange. Please note that there are often delays in sending these transcripts.
