Rejected applications

Here are the most common reasons for ineligibility:

You did not submit all the required attachments.
Your educational documents did not include all the necessary information.
You did not demonstrate your English skills in one of the ways mentioned in the programme-specific admission criteria.
Your degree does not provide eligibility for master’s studies.
The field of your degree is not compatible with that of the programme.
Your application did not meet some other programme-specific requirement.

If your application met all the requirements but did not progress, it did not score enough points in the evaluation.

If your application was eligible but you did not get admitted, the application did not score enough points in the academic evaluation.

The general eligibility requirements are:

All the required documents are uploaded to application form by the deadline.
English language proficiency is proved in one of the accepeted ways mentioned in the programme-specific admission criteria.
The applicant's previous degree gives eligibility for Master's level studies, and the previous field of study is compatible with the programme the applicant is applying to.

Even if you uploaded all the required attachments on the application, we might not have been able to accept your application because of a reason related to the contents of the documents. Here are the most common reasons:

Some of the required information are not mentioned on the transcript of records or degree certificate. For example:
- The document doesn't clearly state that the degree has been awarded.
- Some of the pages of the transcript is not included.
- Grading scale is not included.
- Applicant applies with a top-up degree and has not provided documents regarding the first diploma.

English language proficiency was not proven in one of the accepted ways mentioned in the programme-specific admission criteria. For example:
- Applicant wants to use a higher education degree studied in English as proof of language proficiency. However, the degree is awarded in one of the countries that is not listed as accepted in the admission criteria.
- The language of instruction of the degree is not mentioned on the educational documents.
- Language test result doesn't meet the programme-specific requirements (score is not high enough or the test type is not one of the accepted types of test).

The applicant's previous degree does not give eligibility for Master's level studies, or their previous field of study is not compatible with the programme the applicant is applying to. For example:
- Applicant applies with a Higher National Diploma, which is not extensive enough to give eligibility for master's degree studies.
- The previous studies do not cover the required studies for the programme the applicant is applying for.

Document content requirements

Unfortunately, we cannot make any extensions to our deadlines, even if the delay was caused by a third party, such as the language test organiser, the applicant’s former university, or by the applicant's illness or any other unexpected event as we want to ensure equal treatment of all the applicants. Your application will be evaluated based on the information provided by 29 January, which was the attachment submission deadline.

If any required documents were not submitted to your application in time to meet the given deadline, your application will be deemed ineligible and will not be processed further. If this applies to your situation, JYU warmly welcomes you to apply again in January 2026!

Rectifying the admissions decision

You may submit a written request to rectify the admissions decision if you believe the Ģ��ֱ�� has made a mistake, such as misapplying the admission criteria or miscalculating your score.

If your request is based on grounds other than an actual error made by the University, your request will not be considered.

You can request rectification only after receiving your official admission decision. The decision will state the exact deadline for requesting rectification.

How to request rectification?

You can file a complaint after the final admission results have been published. According to the Degree Regulations of the Ģ��ֱ��, a complaint must specify in detail the decision on which it is based.

When JYU checks the eligibility of applicants and chooses applicants for the next stage, this is a phase in the admission process. It is not an official decision, and, therefore, you cannot file a complaint against it.

The Dean of each faculty will make an official decision on the applicants selected for the programme in question after all the applications have been fully processed. This includes checking for eligibility and the academic evaluation of eligible applications. Applicants who are not admitted will receive instructions for filing a complaint against the decision by email along with the official admission result.
