Webinar on universities’ “handprint” or positive impact on climate and society
This webinar is brought to you by NUAS Sustainability group and The Nordic Sustainable Campus Network (NSCN), and will focus on two things: understanding the concept of handprint as the inverse of footprint and exploring the potentiality of handprint as a means to specify the positive impact of university activities.
Programme:
- 1:00–1:05 pm – Opening words, Chair of NSCN, Sustainability Manager Kristina von Oelreich, KTH Royal Institute of Technology
- 1:05–1:30 pm – Carbon handprint: The concept and calculation, Professor Risto Soukka, LUT University
- 1:30–1:55 pm – University handprint: Pious wishes versus realities, Director Tommi Lehtonen, University of Vaasa
- 2:00–2:25 pm – Discussion in plenary: How does the concept of (carbon) handprint seem from the perspective of universities’ impact assessments? Under what conditions could the concept of handprint be used side by side with the concept of social impact? What can we do to quantify or estimate, in terms of numbers, our universities’ positive impact?
- 2:25–2:30 pm – Closing words, Kristina von Oelreich
NUAS Sustainability group and The Nordic Sustainable Campus Network (NSCN) aim at enhancing the integration of sustainability into Nordic higher education institutions and promote sustainable practices in all campus operations
