There is an emerging recognition of the role that businesses play in eliminating modern forms of slavery from their activities. However, the relevant scholarly research is often fragmented in its approach, reflecting diverse discourses and competing interests. In his presentation, Professor Kubacki will identify several paradoxes (and hoaxes) that impede the progress within the global anti-modern slavery agenda and wider social sustainability.

About the Speaker: Krzysztof Kubacki is Professor of Marketing and Society and Associate Dean International in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business at the University of Plymouth in England. Between 2013-2018 he served as VicHealth’s inaugural Social Marketing Research Practice Fellow (Australia), leading evidence synthesis and working on the development and evaluation of several state and nationwide marketing campaigns and behaviour change programmes. His current research focuses on the intersecting roles of ethics, power and vulnerability in behaviour change and social marketing systems. He is an Associate Editor in the Journal of Marketing Management and Journal of Social Marketing.
