The theme of the discussion in February is: Uncommon topics and disappoinments rarely discussed

Like in other occupations, most of us working in the academia have experienced disappointments. In academia, these often include failures to secure funding, unsuccessful attempts to obtain work positions, rejections from journals, and more. These challenges are less frequently discussed and shared compared to success stories.

However, one can also learn from these experiences as they may function also as positive turning point in career. It is important to share experiences with others how to cope with disappointments and orient oneself toward future accomplishments and perhaps to new avenues in career.

In this session, Professor Anna Rönkä (Department of education)and Research Director Katja Kokko (Gerontology Research Center and Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences) will share their experiences with disappointments and how they have overcome them. Their discussion will be followed by an open dialogue.

Come and share your experiences and coping strategies!

There is no need to pre-register, everyone from any academic career stage is welcome! The language used in the event is predominantly English.
