For dissertation supervisors
The important task of the doctoral dissertation supervisor is to guide the dissertation research in such a way that the doctoral student has the prerequisites for writing a scientifically high-quality dissertation. In addition, supervisor guides the doctoral student in preparing and updating the doctoral study plan, research plan and funding plan.
Instructions regarding doctoral education
In the Instructions for doctoral student, you can find study administrative instructions on, for example, curricula, dissertation requirements, supervision document, follow-up group and the dissertation examination process. The instructions also include information on, for example, funding opportunities for doctoral researchers, research ethics and open science.

Developing supervisory expertise
The aim of the Ģֱ is to enhance the supervisors’ interaction skills and competencies to deal with feedback and act in challenging supervisory settings as well as to developt their pedagogical thinking.
Communication and information
Every faculty has a Teams group for dissertation supervisors, through which current issues of doctoral education are communicated. Ask the faculty's doctoral studies coordinator (via HelpJYU service portal) about your faculty's Teams group.
Your faculty may also inform about current issues related to doctoral education on the faculty's own intranet pages.
Student and academic services
The Support for Doctoral Studies team takes care of the support and service tasks from doctoral studies admission to the graduation as a doctor. Our tasks include e.g. administration of the student admission process, coordination of dissertation examination, tasks related to curricula and teaching schedules as well as submitting credits, preparation of decisions and agreements concerning doctoral studies, study counseling of doctoral students and maintenance of the doctoral studies instructions at university website.
