Why we process your personal data? 

Your personal data are processed for the purposes of technical maintenance and development of the websites of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ (hereinafter JYU) and Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius (chydenius.fi), including the maintenance of content and communications on these websites as well as related functional development and targeting.

The data saved on JYU webpages include, for example, data and statistics collected by feedback forms, accessibility feedback, and cookies.

The use of other than technically absolutely necessary cookies requires your consent. The application of cookies is described in a separate cookie notice. The cookie notice is displayed and the user consent requested when the user enters the jyu.fi or chydenius.fi website for the first time. Later, the cookie notice can be found via the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of the page. By the same link, you can also edit or cancel your consent for the use of cookies.

In addition, JYU webpages contain third-party components associated with, for example, social media applications, such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Any extensions provided on JYU webpages and maintained by third parties are downloaded from their own servers. JYU websites do not send any customer data via social extensions.

What data we process and how long?

What rights you have and how to exercise them?

You have the following rights: 

  • Right to access your data.
  • Right to have any incorrect information corrected.
  • Right to have your data erased (right to be forgotten), in certain situations.
  • Right to restrict processing.
  • Right to have the responsible unit inform the party to which your data is disclosed of your data being corrected, erased, or the processing being restricted.
  • Right to object processing, e.g. direct marketing.
  • Right to have your data transferred from one system to another, when processing is based on an agreement or your consent.
  • Right to be notified of any information security breaches resulting in a high risk.
  • Right to file a complaint with the supervisory authority.
  • Right to withdraw consent

You can exercise your rights by sending a request to the university's Registry Office. You can use the form on the Registry Office's website or send your request informally. Keep in mind that withdrawing your consent doesn’t change the processing that happened before the withdrawal.

Who can access your personal data?

Personal data are processed by JYU’s University Communications, Digital Services and other units that the given feedback concerns.

Also, the service providers we use can access your personal data in their role as data processors. However, these providers do not actively process your personal data, but they have access to it for maintenance reasons.

To whom we transfer your data?

We transfer personal data only within JYU and only to the extent necessary for the technical management and development of the websites as well as for the maintenance of the content, communications and marketing, analysis, development and targeting of the websites.

JYU delivers personal data to third parties only to the extent that is necessary for them to access the personal data we have processed so that the third parties can provide services for JYU for the purposes defined in this privacy notice and in the cookie notice. This refers, for example, to GoogleAnalytics tools and social media channels.

JYU will not transfer your personal data outside the EU/EEA.

Third-party service data are processed according to the service provider’s data protection policies and possibly also outside the EU/EEA area. The University is not accountable if you use third-party services through JYU websites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube).
