A recent graduate is welcome to alumni studies free of charge

If you have graduated 31 July 2023 or before, you are entitled to free alumni studies till the end of the full academic year following your graduation. This form of alumni study right only applies to studies at the faculties.

All graduates who have received their degree from the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ from 1 August 2023 onwards may keep completing studies free of charge for two full academic years following their graduation date.

This rule applies to all open university studies, as well as faculty studies in compliance with the rights the student had when the degree was awarded.

This means that a student who graduates at the beginning of an academic year may enjoy free alumni studies for almost three years: if for instance you complete your degree in August 2024, you have access to alumni studies free of charge all the way to the end of the academic year 2026–2027.

Alumni studies allow you to expand upon your degree flexibly, alongside working or from another location in different life circumstances. Continuous learning enables the development and refining of your expertise as you move into new phases of life, which is why the alumni study right is worth taking into consideration already when planning your studies.

First things first: register for alumni studies

Register for alumni studies after graduation by filling in the Registration for alumni studies form on HelpJYU. You only need to register once, not for every academic year separately.

Studying as an alum in the faculties and Open University

At the faculties, alumni study right covers the study rights you had at the time your degree was awarded, as well as all freely selectable courses in the syllabi.

At the Open University, the alumni study right enables you to study flexibly throughout the year, mostly all online. Open University courses represent all six JYU faculties. You may choose courses from the Finnish-language selection or the international selection.
