Master's Degree Programme in Educational Sciences

The programme offers both theoretical and practical skills across a wide selection of topics in the field of education, ranging from early childhood education to learning in old age. During the Master’s Degree Programme in Educational Sciences (EDUMA), students will gain a broad understanding of the field of education, including awareness of international issues in education. Students will also gain insights into the Finnish education system.

The objective of the Master’s Degree Programme in Educational Sciences is to prepare highly competent and internationally oriented educators to raise the quality of education in the diversifying contexts of the globalised world. 

During the Master’s Degree Programme in Educational Sciences, you will gain a broad understanding of the field of education with a particular awareness of international issues in education. As a student, you become familiar with the Finnish education system and reflect it to their own experiences and the global contexts. Students will have the opportunity to specialise in areas of education which they find the most relevant and interesting.

The areas of specialisation are Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, Global and Sustainable Education, Language and Education, Special Education, and Study and Career Guidance.

Programme info

Applications for master's degree programmes can be submitted once a year in January. 

Master’s Degree Programme in Educational Science provided by the Faculty of Education and Psychology is a two-year (120 ECTS) full-time programme taught in English. Eligible applicants must have at least a Bachelor's degree, proven proficiency in English, and high level of motivation.

Applications for this master's degree programme can be submitted once a year in January, and once accepted, your studies will begin in September. From this programme you will graduate with a Master of Arts (Education). The programme (as a standalone) does not give graduates a Finnish teacher qualification, but prepares experts into various fields of education.

How and when to apply?

  • The application period is in January 2026.
  • You can apply by submitting an online application form. This form is available in the Studyinfo.fi portal during the application period.
  • To apply successfully, you need to have suitable educational background and show proof of your English skills as mentioned in the admission criteria.
  • Applicants also need to submit the required attachments mentioned in the programme-specific admission criteria and on the application form.
  • Students from non-EU/EEA countries are liable to pay a tuition fee. We offer a tuition fee scholarship for students liable to pay tuition fees.

Career opportunities for EDUMA graduates

Students will acquire scientific expertise in the field of education and will be able to work with theories and analyse and develop educational practices. The master’s degree in Educational Sciences creates a foundation for producing scientific knowledge and applying scientific methods in practice in the field of education. The programme prepares experts into various sectors of education in national and international contexts: educational planning, administration, consultancy, coordination, development, teaching and research.
