Coming from a background that blends economic statistics, law, and now information systems, I have always sought to expand my understanding of the world. My academic path has taken me from mainland China, where I earned a degree in Economic Statistics, to Macau, China, where I completed a Juris Master Program. Now, I find myself at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, immersing in the interdisciplinary field of Information Systems. This journey, though diverse, has shaped the way I see my future career and the world at large.

±õ’m Lirong Yu, a master’s student in Information Systems. Having studied both economic statistics and law, I realized the growing importance of technology and data-driven solutions in every field. My legal studies sparked my interest in how information systems can offer more structured and impactful ways of handling data in legal and business environments.

When I discovered the opportunity to combine my love for data with a focus on information systems at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, I knew it was the next step in broadening my professional horizon in the Master’s Degree Programme in Information Systems at JYU.

JYU’s multicultural learning experience

Moving to Finland was an exciting yet challenging experience. From adjusting to different academic practices and course structures to even the smallest details, like local cuisine, the transition took some time. Learning in a multicultural environment has been incredibly enriching but also required me to step outside my comfort zone.

The community here is welcoming, and I’ve appreciated the emphasis on collaboration and student support, but I’ve also faced some hurdles, particularly with the language. Adapting to Finnish, even though most people speak English fluently, has been a humbling experience.

Despite the hurdles, I believe the experiences have added depth to my life and expanded my worldview. Each day here feels like an investment in myself, preparing me for a future where I can integrate diverse perspectives and contribute meaningfully to the tech-driven world.

Looking ahead: Merging disciplines for a modern career

Coming from both economic and legal backgrounds, I aim to integrate these fields with information systems. My career vision is to become a professional who can bridge the gap between technology and business.

I believe that understanding data-driven solutions and the legal frameworks surrounding them is crucial in today’s world, especially as businesses undergo digital transformation. I am particularly interested in how information systems can support decision-making processes and enhance operational efficiency in businesses, and I see my studies here at JYU as a vital step toward achieving this goal.

As I look forward to the next steps in my academic and professional career, I feel a deep sense of excitement about the possibilities. The supportive community of our Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ and Finnish stunning natural environment have provided the perfect backdrop for reflection and growth.

I am eager to continue exploring how the intersection of law, economics, and technology can shape future industries, and ±õ’m confident that my journey here will lead me to contribute to innovative solutions in the global economy.
