The activities of the Experimental Nanophysics and Nanotechnology group are in basic and applied research in the rapidly growing field of nanoscale physics. We have well-established research on electrical and thermal properties on the sub-micron scale, and also on utilisation of these phenomena in sensors and other devices. Our state-of-the-art fabrication infrastructure allows us to use sophisticated methods for the development of nanoscale structures for research and also for prototype-level device fabrication. For measurement purposes, we have sub-Kelvin cryogenic equipment and electrically shielded rooms. We are increasingly involved in multidisciplinary nanoscience research at the molecular level.

Several theoretical and computational nanoscience research groups are working at the Nanoscience Center. Computational nanosciences research focuses on the basic research of atomic clusters, low-dimensional structures, and other nanoscale objects.

The theoretical nanophysics research concentrates on superconductivity, magnetism, open quantum systems, in particular optomechanics, and topological media. They will also develop theoretical methods for modelling strong electron interactions in molecular and solid structures.
