Researchvideo is the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥'s recording and transcription service for video and audio data. It is suitable also for sensitive data. The service uses automatic transcription into Finnish as well as into English and several other languages. The transcriptions can also be translated into English based upon the audio file. The service works in conjunction with the MyJYU recorder, enabling secure handling of recordings from the recording phase to the end of the data lifecycle. Both services are available to research and teaching staff (including doctoral researchers) and students.
The two services can be used together or separately. This page is here to help you choose the most suitable service path for your research.
Getting a Researchvideo project
The use of the Researchvideo service is done through a workspace we call a Researchvideo project. Access rights can be granted to individuals handling the data within the project. If it is necessary to add different levels and durations of access rights to your data, please contact OSC Research Data Services (contact details at the bottom of this page).
Data recorded by MyJYU can also be transferred under an existing Researchvideo project. Ask more about transferring materials under a project also from OSC Research Data Services.
Projects can be ordered by using a Vasara form. Instructions on how to order a project can be found from the Researchvideo Guide page that also contains guidance on how to use the service. Press the button below to continue to the project order instructions.
How to Proceed if Sensitive Data Needs to Be Exported from Researchvideo?
Situations may arise where it is necessary to export data from Researchvideo. Here are some reasons why this might occur:
- Use of analysis applications such as Atlas.ti
- Transcription or pseudonymization by an external party to JYU
- Enabling simultaneous collaboration on the data (e.g., analysis of transcriptions)
In these situations, secure transfer and storage of the data must be considered. Necessary actions include:
- Whenever you download data from the service, you commit to storing and handling the data securely
- Ensure that your browser downloads the data locally to the C drive in a location that does not synchronize to cloud services.
- Keep the local storage of the data as temporary as possible and protect the data by encrypting it with Cryptomator, if possible.
- If it is necessary to send the data to an external party (e.g., a transcription company), protect the data before sending it by using a program like 7-Zip (ask for instructions from OSC’s Research Data Services if needed).
Note: Always remember to delete copies of the data when they are no longer needed and empty the device’s recycle bin. If necessary, overwrite the storage space used for the data (this may need to be done before deleting the file, depending on the application). JYU’s digital services take care of clearing the storage space on JYU’s work computers. Contact OSC’s Research Data Services if you have any questions related to this.
