Publishing metadata in JYX

This is how you publish the basic description or metadata of your datasets in the JYX repository in a situation where the data themselves cannot be published for ethical or legal reasons. The publication of metadata covers the minimum requirements of the university and key funders for the openness of research data.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Create metadata in the data section of Converis, either when you start creating the data or at the latest when you have the finished data. Update the metadata as necessary as the research and processing of your data progresses. When the data starts to accumulate, save the metadata in the Save and select Step menu in the bottom right-hand corner of the form, in the Add To field. In this mode, you have access to all the options and data fields in Converis.

  2. When you want to publish the metadata, make sure that the title of the data is unique and descriptive, for example "Media literacy of primary school pupils (grades 4-6) in Northern Finland 2020-2025: survey and interviews". Also check that the description of the material is clear and detailed enough for another researcher in the same field to be able to read it and assess whether the material is potentially useful to them. If you are only publishing metadata, select "Access on request" in the Availability of data menu. In this case, those interested in the closed access material will be able to contact the contact persons listed in Converis, if necessary.

  3. Once all the information is complete, save the information in Converis in the Save and select Step menu in the bottom right-hand corner, in the As Reviewed mode. The Open Science Centre will then contact you as necessary and publish the metadata in the JYX repository. Once the DOI link is activated, the Open Science Centre will send it to you by email.

See the 'Metadata in Converis' guide link to the bottom of this page to begin with your metadata.
