Research group description
CLeAr (Cognition, Learning & Arousal) explores the connections between cognitive processes, learning, and physiological responses. We investigate how our minds and bodies influence learning. Did you know that in addition to regulating body temperature, we also sweat in response to our cognitive and affective processes? This is technically known as electrodermal activity (EDA).
Increases in sweat gland activity, even those caused by mental effort, are easily measured as increases in the skin's electrical conductance. For example, knowing how much the beautiful Finnish language makes you sweat can be informative about your learning process! We use measures like skin conductance to explore how cognitive and emotional factors influence learning outcomes, with potential applications in education and training.
Who would have imagined that sweat could be so useful?
