TALIS - the Teaching and Learning International Survey

Table of contents
Project description
The Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) is an international survey under the OECD. TALIS surveys have been conducted every five years since 2008. The fourth TALIS (2024) cycle is currently being implemented. Finland has previously participated in the survey twice, in 2013 and 2018. In Finland, the survey is coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the Finnish Institute for Educational Research of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ is responsible for the implementation of the survey.
In Finland the TALIS 2024 survey consists of two sub-modules, one of which focuses on upper grades of primary education (upper secondary schools) and the other on early childhood education and pre-primary education. The studies produce international comparative data on practices promoting teaching, education, learning and leadership, as well as factors related to high-quality education.
Surveys aimed at secondary school teachers and principals are used to find out teachers' and educational institution management's perceptions of, among other things, teaching and the impact of feedback on teaching, professional development needs and its obstacles, the school's working atmosphere, and the challenges of multiculturalism and sustainable development. More than 50 countries are participating in the study.
Surveys directed at early childhood education and preschool directors and staff are conducted to find out their views on a wide range of issues such as working with children, play and learning practices, cooperation with colleagues, working atmosphere and pedagogical and administrative leadership. 17 countries are participating in the study.
