Project description

The goal of the pilot action study is to examine experiences of forced migration with the target group of refugee youth (aged 17-29). The study was first piloted in Italy and then re-piloted in Finland. The study undertakes a participatory action research approach, and its main principles of the research are co-creation, co-caring and multimodality/art-based methodologies. In winter 2023, we carried out a 6-week workshop in Aurinkopaja in the city of Jyväskylä. Aurinkopaja is part of the city’s youth art workshop actions and intended for Ukrainian youth, and very recently, all youth with a refugee background living in Jyväskylä region. In the workshop, questions of migration and mobility were explored through artistic methods, such as writing, drawing, sculpturing, music, photography and videos. Around 6-10 Ukrainian youth took part in the workshop to discuss learning, belonging, identities and change. All activities were co-created with the young participants, coaches of Aurinkopaja and creative practitioners.

The ongoing pilot action study is currently at the stage of data collection and analysis.
