Project description

Ecological psychology, and Bronfenbrennen (1994) in particular, argues that the most important factor in human (athlete) development is the relationship with the environment. Previous literature on athletes' transitions and talent development has also shown that the development of athletes in dual careers is influenced by a number of factors, including the environment in which they live, the leadership they encounter and the team atmosphere. The ECO-DC aims to: (1) develop a comprehensive understanding of dual career development environments (DCDE) in Europe, and (2) provide guidelines on how dual career development environments (DCDE) can be developed and optimised to support the aspirations of talented elite athletes to succeed in sport and education.
