Project description
The aim of the study was to investigate how students of different age work in a digital learning environment and how the teacher together with the environment guide students. A digital learning environment for investigating balance was developed. Students from grades 2, 4, and 6 participated in the study. Data was collected with pre- and post-tests and by video recording students’ work in the environment when pre-service teachers guided them. The environment was found to support learning and enabling meaningful investigation for students of different age. In addition, factors affecting students work were identified. The interplay between the teacher and the environment was found important and different kinds of interplay were identified. The findings help to understand learning in digital environments and the importance of teacher guidance besides the supports that are inbuilt in the learning environment.
