Biography

I am a contemporary culture researcher specialising in audiovisual popular culture. My main research interests include fictional violence, gender and sexuality, and fandom and audiences.

Research interests

My doctoral research focuses on how fictional representations of violence can be ambivalent – that is, deliberately multifaceted and equivocal in their attitude towards violence – and how portraying violence ambivalently can be used as a tool to challenge and criticize violence. My research also sheds light on how audiences react to ambivalent violent fiction and how they negotiate this ambivalence.
