Research interests
I study institutional and professional action from a linguistic perspective. I examine the linguistic, interactional and textual practices through which institutional and professional action is carried out, how these practices restrict or enable participation, and the meanings, values and norms they create for issues and phenomena. I am particularly interested in the links between language and social change. I have studied, for example, the ways in which religious peer groups read and interpret text, organizational change and decision-making in multi-professional planning groups, management training and organizational consulting, and the service sales and work processes of new creative entrepreneurs. Currently, I am involved in a research project examining the effects and limitations of AI-human interplay in working life and society. My research provides multi-faceted insights into the practices and changes in contemporary working life, enabling critical examination, evaluation and development of these practices.
