Riikka Ahokas
Biography
I am conducting research in the counter section of the disciplines of (music) education, cognitive music science and psychology. Recently my main research interest has been rhythm, and my forthcoming dissertation is concentrated on the connection between human perception of rhythm and cognition. I conduct research and investigative journalism also in other areas of music - latest popuralized and scholar work has been concentrated on female-identified and non binary musicians career development possibilities.
During the academic year 2021-2022, I was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Neuroscience in Education (CNE) laboratory at the University of Cambridge.
My work has been supported by the Alfred Kordelin Foundation (2021) and the Cultural Foundation of Finland (2024). In 2022 I received an honourable mention at the KOURA awards for my investigative journalism work focusing on the career opportunities of female- identified and non-binary professional musicians ().
