Biography
I work at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research as a researcher and national vice coordinator in the PIRLS study, which evaluates the reading comprehension of 4th grade students. In addition, I work as a reading literacy researcher in the PISA assessment, which focuses on to what extent 15-year-old students have acquired knowledge and skills for full participation in society. I am also working on a PhD for the Department of Language and Communication Studies. In my dissertation, I focus on critical literacy in the PISA 2018 reading literacy assessment.
Research interests
My research is primarily related to international assessment studies – especially the reading literacy skills of children and young people and the factors related to reading literacy achievement and its development. The research results can be used, for example, in educational policy decision-making. My research produces reliable and comprehensive information also for the needs of others interested in literacy and school. In my dissertation, I focus on critical literacy in the PISA 2018 reading literacy assessment.
