Johanna Terävä
Biography
I work as a university lecturer in early childhood education, where I both teach and research.
My teachings include different level teaching, with an emphasis on qualitative methods and Master's thesis supervision.
I have been researching family and parenthood for over two decades. Particular interest is paternity. In my doctoral dissertation (2010), I studied the narratives (stories, feelings and agency) of men who became fathers for the first time. Since then, I have studied fatherhood in various crises (with P. Eerola) and with my colleague M-L Böök examined the everyday life and emotional world of the family through interviews with family members. In our latest research project, Böök and I examine (co-)parenting after the separation of fathers and mothers and also collect data on children's experiences of separation.
