Research interests
Icons are a kind of interface language that appear as a guide in the interface of the devices we use every day. It has been proved in some studies that the usability of icons is related to the level of abstraction and the user's familiarity, but it is not yet known how our brain processes the icons or which kind of icons are more easily recognizable. In the meantime, is it important for icons to be attractive, i.e. Do "Attractive Things Work Better"? This still needs to be revealed.
My research interest is to study the usability of interface icons through a cognitive neuroscience approach. The goal is to explore how the brain processes icons with various abstractness at different semantic distances through behavioural and Magnetoencephalography methods. Based on the aesthetic-usability effect theory, my current research is on the relationship between the aesthetic and semantic distance of interface icons.Further, I will use the method of MEG(Magnetoencephalograph) to explore the effect of aesthetic appeal and semantic distance on the brain when we see different style icons.
