Biography
I work as a senior lecturer in technical communication at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, where I also hold an associate professorship (Title of Docent) in technical communication. I received my PhD in English and Technical Communication from the University of Oulu in 2015. I also have 15 years of practical experience in the field. My research interests include minimalism in technical communication, language professionals' perceived meaningfulness at work, and cognitive accessibility. I am vice-president of the Finnish Technical Communication Society.
Our research group Re-imagining the futures of minimalism explores how the working lives of people in professional roles have changed, and how future technological disruptions affect the meaningfulness of work. In recent years, the fragmentation of work, the loss of a sense of control, and the accelerating pace of work have reduced the meaningfulness of work (Virtaluoto & Selkälä, 2022). We investigate how technological solutions could be used to reduce fragmentation and give professionals time to focus on their core tasks.
