Hugo Bonin
Biography
I am a postdoctoral researcher, specialising in the histories, practices and theories of democracy.
I received my PhD in political science from Université Paris VIII and Université du Québec à Montréal in 2020, on the conceptual history of democracy in nineteenth century Britain. This led me to publish a monograph (in French) on the question: ‘At the sound of the new word spoken’: Le mot démocratie en Grande-Bretagne, 1770-1920, Presses universitaires de Rennes, Rennes, forthcoming.
Before joining JYU, I conducted research at the Center of History of Political Thought at Queen Mary, University of London (2020-2022). I have published an essay on sortition in politics (La démocratie hasardeuse, XYZ, Montréal, 2018). My research has appeared in British Politics, Digital Scholarship for the Humanities, Global Intellectual History as well as other journals and edited volumes.
