Biography
Kähkönen pronunciation guide: "Käh" sound is like the "ca" in cat, "kö" sound is like the "ki" in skirt, and "nen" rhymes with den.
I am a postdoc researcher / teacher at the Department of Teacher Education, University o Jyväskylä. I am in charge of our UNESCO ASPnet School Network collaboration.
I study teacher interaction and conceptual development in the project Dynamics of Explaining and Understanding (DynExU). We study how conceptual change takes place in real time, using inquiry based tasks as a context for student teacher discussions. We are interested in the roles of learner and teacher, epistemic emotions, and the conversations in problem-solving situations.
I teach basic studies in pedagogy and science education courses. I also supervise bachelor's and master's theses particularly about science education as well as sustainability.

Research interests
Interdisciplinarity interests me, particularly how it is viewed by those who are involved with interdisciplinary research or are studying an interdisciplinary topic/area. In my research I have taken a deeper look into nanoscience education from this point of view. I'm trying to make interdisciplinary choices better understood by students and to ease their path to an interdisciplinary career. I'm also involved in other science education projects, combining science with other school subjects.
