I work primarily on early modern moral and political philosophy. I am particularly interested in three related themes: the implications of ‘materialist’ psychologies for moral and political thought, the legacy of medieval faculty psychology, and ideas of human nature in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.  My publications to date focus on the philosophy of Thomas Hobbes, and I am editor of the journal Hobbes Studies.
